Logo: Minnesota Trade Mission to South Africa: March 28 to April 6, 2008

The Minnesota Trade Office (MTO) is leading a delegation of Minnesota companies on a trade mission to the fast-growing market of South Africa.  Scheduled for March 28 to April 6, 2008, the mission will help small and medium-sized companies gain valuable market information and meet prospective business partners.

South Africa is an attractive mid-size market.  The economy is growing about 5 percent annually and barriers to entry are few. English is the language of business; the legal and corporate framework is very similar to the United States; and manufacturing and resource-based industries are expanding. Consumer and capital equipment sales have reached record levels, and further investment is expected in conjunction with the country’s hosting of the World Cup in 2010.

South Africa also serves as an important entry point to neighboring markets with growth rates averaging 8 percent, and it is a gateway to trade with other Indian Ocean rim countries.  Opportunities exist in many sectors, but those with high prospects include:

  • Agricultural equipment and processing machinery
  • Automotive parts and accessories
  • Electrical power systems
  • Franchising
  • Telecommunications equipment
  • Airport/ground support security
  • Transportation
  • Infrastructure and civil construction
  • Renewable energy
  • Safety/security equipment
  • Pollution control equipment
  • Mining equipment
  • Medical equipment

If you are not already active in South Africa, now is the time to begin. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the business environment and culture firsthand and gain insight through networking with your counterparts from other exporting companies.

Mission Benefits
